Godthrymm backstory

Formed by former My Dying Bride, Vallenfyre and Solstice guitarist Hamish Glencross, Godthrymm are cloaked in sweeping, 90s Gothic doom.

The Yorkshire-based act laid down two modern classics in 2020 debut Reflections and its successor, Distortions; records that formed the first two parts of their Visions trilogy.

Featuring Hamish’s wife, Catherine on vocals/keys, Bob Crolla on bass, ex-Anathema, My Dying Bride and Solstice drummer Shaun Taylor-Steel and new guitarist Kris McLaughlin, they’re now set to complete that triptych with Projections.

Their third album will see Hamish reunited with High Parasite and (now ex) My Dying Bride singer Aaron Stainthorpe for Endure My Skin.

Plus, there’ll also be guest appearances on Trenches Deep from English Dogs vocalist Adie Bailey and Xentrix frontman Jay Walsh, in what could be a very fiesty UK soundclash.

Truth In My Own is the first single to be taken from the album.

In Hamish Glencross’s own words

“We picked Truth In My Own as the lead single as it is the most fist clenching and head banging song on the album!

Projections brings much contrast and diversity as we’ve pushed the sonic extremities of our sound, and we hope you enjoy this first very direct heavy metal song complete with a suitably frenetic video directed by the masterful Ash Pears.”

The verdict on Truth In My Own

Hamish Glencross is a doom metal lifer.

A ferryman who’s steered us through UK’s gloom-shrouded, mirky waterways for decades.

So it’s no surprise that Truth In My Own sounds absolutely immense.

Glencross and his bandmates create chasm-deep, soul searing music.

They do that instinctively.

Over the course of two albums, they’ve woven rich tapestries from the Peaceville Three blueprint.

Truth In My Own is no different.

And its dramatic movements, pitch black riffs and imperious sonic architecture bode very well for their third full-length.

Hamish and Catherine are the perfect vocal partnership, the former delivering a career best contribution of passion and power, the latter emerging from the darkness with words of ethereal beauty,

And Taylor-Steels powers the song with imperious kitwork, building to a double-kicked, crushing crescendo that lives up the track’s billing.
