Lost Society – Braindead (Nuclear Blast)

Genre: Thrash Metal

It’s not as if thrash metal party boys Lost Society have gone all serious in their old(er) age but Braindead’s deceptive album title doesn’t tell the whole story.

Sure there are breakneck headbangers aplenty as the band warm up for this month’s eagerly anticipated UK tour with legends of the genre Exodus.

But there’s a hitherto unseen depth to some of the Finns’ finest work as they follow up Fast Loud Death (2013) and Terror Hungry(2014) with a truly immersive body of work.

The canny juxtaposition of Hangover Activator and Only (My) Death Is Certain showcases Lost Society’s remarkable transition and growing maturity: the latter is about as silly as trad thrash gets with more than a hint of Tankard about this future crowd favourite and yet the latter is epic.

Evoking memories of the Big Four’s most ambitious efforts, O(M)DIC clocks in at more than eight minutes and every second counts.

Catch them with Exodus and prepare to rip up those lazy preconceptions. Thrash metal’s boy band are almost all grown up.
