It’s that time of the year when we turn the spotlight on the bands you simply can’t afford to miss at this year’s typically eclectic 2014 Download Festival.
As usual RUSHONROCK will be on site for the full three days bringing you the very best news and reviews from the UK’s biggest and best rock and metal fest.
And to get you in the mood we’ll be pointing you in the direction of the cream of the crop – with British classic rock kings The Temperance Movement next up.
Band: The Temperance Movement
When: Friday June 13 16.55-17.35
Where: Zippo Encore Stage
Who: DIY retro rock crew who crafted a Top 20 debut album in 2014 and continue to reach for the stars buoyed by critical acclaim from peers, fans and the music press alike. Their tunes may be rooted in the 50s, 60s and 70s but TTM boast a unique appeal thanks to a scintillating twin guitar sound and frontman Phil Campbell’s endearing vocal style. Holding their own on a label boasting US big hitters Rival Sons and Blackberry Smoke.
Why: British rock has been calling out for a band of The Temperance Movement’s quality and swagger for some time and it’s no surprise their allure transcends the traditional rock crowd. Many of Download’s metal heads will deem the Anglo-Scottish troupe a little too lightweight but they fit perfectly alongside Tesla, Rivals Sons and The Answer on the Zippo Encore stage.
Listen out for: The rousing Only Friend from 2013’s The Temperance Movement.
Fact or fiction? One of the band members made his name with UK funksters Jamiroquai.
What we said: ‘Debuting at the Download Festival later this summer, Campbell and co. are the very epitome of upward mobility in a music business apparently on its knees. It’s easy to see why: live shows don’t get much better than this and bands who write great music and perform classic rock songs have never been out of fashion.’ Review from April 2014 Newcastle University Studentts Union show.
