New York Dolls axe slinger Steve Conte proves that you just can’t keep a good man down as he prepares to unleash his latest rock and roll dream project on UK audiences.
With the Dolls enjoying a long overdue renaissance it would be fair to assume Conte hasn’t got a great deal of time on his hands.
And yet the guitarist has only gone and formed Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth and recorded what promises to be a belter of a record.
“This album sounds like a band playing live because it’s drums, bass and guitar together in one room with solos recorded live on the basic tracks, rough and tough,” said Conte.
“It was like doing a gig. I love playing live with this band because it’s all about interplay and the moment. We don’t just deliver the songs…we JAM!”
Special guests on the album include David Johansen (New York Dolls) on harmonica, Catherine Russell (David Bowie) and Nicki Richards (Madonna) on backing vocals, plus Danny Ray (Sylvain Sylvain/Johnny Thunders), Kiku Collins (Beyonce) and Tom Timko (Stevie Wonder) on horns.
The record hits stores on November 30 with Conte and his Dolls colleagues due to play Hard Rock Hell the following weekend. Look out for a full review right here on the eve of the album’s release.
