Ever since Metallica broke with tradition and released their new album on a Friday (or a Wednesday or a Thursday wherever you happened to be) it seems bands are bringing out new tunes whenever the hell they like.

Take those bastions of British metal tradition Saxon. If ever there was a bunch of traditionalists likely to stick with new music Monday it would surely be Biff and the boys. Alas no!

Proving themselves to be fully au fait with the internet age, the NWOBHM pioneers will unleash new single Live To Rock as a download-only tune tomorrow after gaining some warm praise in unexpected quarters for an anthem in the making.

The song previews 2009’s Into The Labyrinth and, according to those who attended this week’s album listening session in London, fans old and new have every reason to be excited about the Barnsley band’s much anticipated return to form. If you read rushonrock then you clearly do Live To Rock and we predict you’ll just love this new slab of Saxon at their chord-crunching best.
