Feuerschwanz backstory

Erlangen’s finest have undergone an impressive transformation in recent years.

After two decades as a band and with two German number one albums under their belt there’s no disguising the explosive thrust of their hurdy gurdy arsenal.

But it was Feuerschwanz’s participation in the preliminary round of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest that truly captured the attention of the previously unconverted.

And with upcoming long player Knightclub the band’s first to feature an English title it’s clear that their ambitions stretch far beyond the continent.

The title track became a fan favourite during the Eurovision Song Contest pre-selection, firing up audiences across Germany.

The album version features Dag-Alexis Kopplin of SDP on guest vocals.

In Feuerschwanz’s own words:

This song is not only for the ‘Brothers everywhere’, but for ALL Vikings and Valkyries out there!

“Together with metal legend Doro Pesch, we call on the entire metal community.

“Let’s stand side by side, let’s renew the oath and show the world that we all have something in common — namely the love for heavy metal!

“Together we are strong — we stand together side by side. Peace, love and heavy metal.”

In Doro Pesch’s own words:

As soon as I heard Valhalla for the first time, I was immediately hooked and loved the idea of recording this song together.

“The video is also super epic and beautiful. I love it!”

The verdict on Valhalla

There’s nothing quite like tribal metal to fire the emotions and stir the senses.

And with Rushonrock faves Turisas apparently on permanent hiatus there’s an opportunity for a new riff-fuelled army to follow in Mathias ‘Warlord’ Nygård’s infamous footsteps.

To be fair to Feuerschwanz they’ve been flying the flag for ‘re-enactment rock’ for almost as long as their Scandi cousins.

But the bullish Bavarians’ brave decision to eschew their trademark medieval metal for something altogether more Viking could be a game changer.

Roping in Doro Pesch to lead the charge is a stroke of genius — the Metal Queen’s an ideal standard bearer for Valhalla’s pulsating vibe.

And in combination with her battle-hardened countrymen, the former Warlock favourite adds a veteran swagger to this wonderfully overblown anthem.

We’ve long come to accept that the electric guitar is mightier than the sword.

But who knew a pipe solo could be quite so powerful?

What’s next for Feuerschwanz

The band plays Bloodstock Festival next month before heading out on the Lords Of Fyre tour — with Lord Of The Lost — across Germany in October.
