Bonfire backstory
Originally founded in 1972 by guitarist Hans Ziller in Ingolstadt, Germany, the group released their first album under the name Cacumen.
A 1986 rebrand as Bonfire birthed Don’t Touch The Light and 1987’s hit-laden follow-up Fireworks drew international acclaim.
Point Blank (1989) and Knock Out (1991) maintained the band’s momentum before the onset of grunge forced a brief hiatus.
But Bonfire were back with a bang in 1996 and founder Ziller has lead from the front for the past 30 years.
Alongside Scorpions and Accept, Bonfire were amongst the three most successful German rock bands on the planet during the late 80s.
At their peak, tours alongside Judas Priest and ZZ Top proved Bonfire’s pulling power and hit You Make Me Feel has racked up 35 million YouTube views to date.
In bassist Ronnie Parkes’ own words
“We are so excited for the release of I Died Tonight.
“The chemistry is really flowing and we feel there will be some great things to come with these new songs.
“I Died Tonight is a classic melodic AOR style track.
“We hope people enjoy it as much as we did making it.”
The verdict on I Died Tonight
This power ballad par excellence is proof positive that Bonfire night should be every night for fans of 80s-styled melodic hard rock.
The explosive Germans have gone back to the future on one of their finest fist-pumpers for 30 years.
And rocket-fuelled frontman DYAN is clearly on a mission to stamp his own histrionic mark on Hans Ziller’s crew two years after taking up the vocal reins.
Meanwhile, Bonfire’s veteran founder has lost none of the fret-blazing spark that underpinned 80s hits including the standout Sweet Obsession.
Ziller’s trademark axe work elevates I Died Tonight to the next level and proves there’s still plenty of life left yet in these blazing rockers.
What’s next for Bonfire
A new deal with Frontiers Music is set to spawn a first full length album since 2020’s Fistful Of Fire.
