Tomorrow sees one of the biggest events in the history of British metal as the Big Four play on the same UK stage, on the same bill, on the same day for the first time!
All this week we’ve been profiling the masters of thrash metal and today it’s the turn of the godfathers of the genre.
Metallica might have ditched their raw thrash roots many years ago but there’s no denying the fact that they rival Maiden as the biggest metal act on the planet.
Enjoy Calum Robson’s focus on James, Lars and co, and look out for his exclusive Sonisphere coverage across the weekend!
BAND: METALLICA
WHEN: Friday 8th July (8.30PM)
WHERE: Apollo Stage
YOU KNOW THEM BECAUSE: To put it simply – they are one of the biggest forces in modern metal music. If you’ve somehow been living under a rock for the last 30 years, then you might also know them for the Some Kind Of Monster documentary, Lars Ulrich’s fabulous drumming and Napster fights, James Hetfield’s fantastic showmanship and Kirk Hammett’s shred-tastic axe-wiedling.
GUARANTEED THRILL: Master Of Puppets
TOILET BREAK: Invisible Kid – although I hold the rarely-found opinion that St Anger was a decent album for the best part!
LOOK OUT FOR: Some smashing Hetfield banter to rile the masses and some insane work from Ulrich to potentially fulfill expectiations and lord the stage.
ESSENTIAL ALBUM: The Black Album
OUT NOW: Death Magnetic
LIKE METALLICA? YOU MAY ENJOY: Certainly Diamond Head – a band that had a huge impact on Metallica’s two founding members. Check out Motorhead and rampant modern metallers Arch Enemy on Sunday.
