It might be a whopping 26 years since his band last played Castle Donington but Y&T’s Dave Meniketti can’t wait to tread the famous boards again with brand new album Facemelter under his belt.

With just hours to go before the US melodic rock masters hit the Pepsi Max Stage (18.55-19.35) we caught up with a singer determined to roll back the years and play power chords for fun.

“Download is a very exciting thing to do,” admitted Meniketti. “It’s a festival we have wanted to do for some time.

“We still have very fond memories of the Monsters Of Rock in 1984 and were itching to get back to Donington. The UK has always been a huge deal for us and that 1984 bill was one of the best ever. “There was AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy, Gary Moore and then we were on after Accept and Motley Crue.

“Of course AC/DC were back too and they’re probably one of my favourite all-time bands.”
