Plans are already in place for the Quireboys to head back to Brazil in 2011 after their inaugural sell-out show went down a storm.
The band returned from Sao Paulo last week to embark on their final UK headline tour of the year. But singer Spike revealed: “We’ve discovered a whole new army of fans and we’re going back to South America next year. Brazil, Argentina and Chile here we come!”
The rock and roll veterans were treated like kings on their first foray into the South American market after rearranging a trip that was initially cancelled earlier this year. But Spike added: “We touched down for a fuel stop on the same day that the Brazilian government had decided to clamp down on organised crime in the country.
“We couldn’t move for soldiers and police as all these mafia men were trying to sneak around. We were sat at the airport bar – just for a change – and it was crazy. The security was so tight there were blokes down to their underwear and I was even asked to take off my bandana. That’s when I realised things were serious…
“But we can’t wait to go back. I struck up a great relationship with the promoter out there and we’re doing more gigs next year. It’s a bit different playing in the heat of Brazil compared to the Arctic wastes of the UK but I loved it. I went as red as a lobster in 10 minutes over there – now I’m blue with the cold!”
The adverse weather forced the cancellation of the band’s Sheffield and Huddersfield gigs last week but the latter will now take place on December 13. Fans in Huddersfield will have to wait until February 18 for the band to hit the town’s Tokyo venue.
