mayfairTen years ago this month a North East institution closed its doors for the final time as The Mayfair made way for a massive cinema, restaurants and bars now known as The Gate.

Spanning four decades as the biggest rock club in Europe, the venue played host to every guitar band worht its salt including the likes of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns N Roses and, famously, Nirvana. Check out a couple of tix unearthed from the rushonrock vaults and check out the deliberate mistake on one of them. Then share your Mayfair memories by leaving a comment – and if you’re off to tonight’s o2 Academy Reunion enjoy!

livcoltickVernon Reid and the boys delivered a typically energetic set in front of a frenzied Toon crowd still riding high on the likes of Love Rears Its Ugly Head and Cult Of Personality.

This tour was in support of their 1993 album Stain and for fans in need of some new Living Colour their new record The Chair In The Doorway is released by Megaforce Records next month!

The latest record from the funk rock masters can’t come soon enough as far as we’re concerned and expect a full review just as soon as we get our sticky mits on a copy…

smashpumptikVery much a band at the forefront of the early 90s rock revolution, the Pumpkins were brooding, bolshy and often utterly barmy.

This wasn’t a memorable gig – maybe it had something to do with Brown Ale – but on the back of mega seller Siamese Dream there’s no doubt Billy Corgan’s mob were the must-see band towards the end of 1993.
