If it’s not inked in already then mark down the following date in your rock diary – Thursday April 9 at North Tyneside’s newest hangout for those who like their music hot and heavy.
Acclaimed tribute act The Sex Pistols Experience (pictured) headline the three-band show with local heroes Columbia and rushonrock faves Dirty Rock & Roll completing what should be a killer bill. With tickets for the Whitley Bay shindig priced at a recession busting £8 a pop there’s surely no better way to start your Easter Weekend (unless your mam still buys you one of those massive Thornton’s chocolate eggs with your name etched in white icing…)
Staged at the brand spanking new Trojan Rooms – adjacent to the Avalon Hotel – next week’s event could be the start of something very special for rock fans in the region. Promoter Richard Bilton is keen to bring more quality music to a venue purpose built to serve the rock community and he told rushonrock: “This gig will test the water.
“Whitley Bay used to be a big rock town with a big rock reputation and I’d love to be able to put bands on at the Trojan Rooms regularly. I’m putting my heart and soul into this show and I’ve managed to bring one of the best punk tribute acts in the business up north to play alongside two of the best upcoming bands I’ve seen in a while.
“I went to see Columbia play in Newcastle and Dirty Rock & Roll were on the same bill. I thought they were a little bit different and the interaction with the crowd was great. I think both bands could go places.”
