Gwailo backstory

It’s almost a year since North East classic rockers Gwailo dropped their first Red Hot Track Of The Week.

And the incendiary Live For The Weekend summed up the party-starting attitude this fabulous five-piece brings to every show.

Twelve months down the line and a band celebrating its 10th anniversary continues to push the boundaries and pick up the pace.

If 2017’s tentative first steps onto the live circuit revealed some serious potential then post-Covid Gwailo have really hit their stride.

Last year brought a first run of European shows and the momentum’s built big style throughout 2026.

Supports with US buzz band Starbenders, Syteria, NWOCR favourites Bad Actress and Thieves of Liberty — at their sold-out hometown show in Newcastle — reinforced Gwailo’s growing reputation.

And critically acclaimed slots at Breaking Bands Festival and Cambridge Rock Festival pulled in a new army of smitten fans.

In Gwailo’s own words

You Got It is about having the confidence to do or wear something that you usually wouldn’t.

Stepping out of that comfort zone and doing what makes you feel good.

We want to see that word spread and inspire others because no matter what it is You Got It.

The verdict on You Got It

Another furious blast from classic rock’s future past is paired with a punchy video that brings alive Gwailo’s legendary live energy.

You Got It is the adrenaline-fuelled release required to see out the second half of the ambitious band’s 10th anniversary year in style.

And a swaggering single gives frontman Michael Curry ample opportunity to showcase his David Coverdale-esque charisma.

Make no mistake: within the space of three years Gwailo have gone from wayward wannabes to rock and roll’s fully focused real deal.

The transformation’s been quite staggering.

You Got It is the sound of a band that knows where it’s going, what it wants and how to get it.

We’ll wager those targets will be met. With ease.

What’s next for Gwailo

The band returns to festival action next month with slots at both Planet Rockstock and Winterstorm.

Gwailo round off the year with a headline show in their native North East on December 12. Details will be released soon.
