After less than five days’ sales the mighty Metallica have seen off indie rock newbies and media darlings Glasvegas to land at number one on the Official UK Top 40 Album Chart!

One of the best results for rock in recent history has seen Death Magnetic trump the Glaswegians’ self-titled debut to prove once and for all that while form is temporary, class is permanent. And with Slipknot’s All Hope Is Gone clinging on to 12th spot there has never been a better time to celebrate the music we love.

Now let’s hope Metallica follow Slipknot’s lead and announce a Metro Radio Arena gig in February to keep us rocking well into 2009…
