rushonrock fave and shock rocker extraordinaire Wednesday 13 has revealed that quitting the major label gravy train and management safety net was the best decision he ever made.
The US star opted to go it alone prior to the release of 2007’s acclaimed Skeletons record and two years down the line he’s never turning back.
“I have a licence deal with my records now and in the US I released that last one myself. It turned out to be the best thing I ever did. I get my music out to more people and I make more money doing it that way. There’s no label coming in and taking any rights away from me. I got fucked a couple of times by management but you learn your lessons.” Read the rest of this entry »

It is still a little known fact among parents-to-be, even in these times of economic gloom and deepening recession, that there is what amounts to an unwritten rule concerning unforeseen births on shop floors.
Should you or your partner happen to pop out your offspring slap bang in the middle of Boots, somewhere between the frozen fish and French Fancies in Marks & Sparks or in the John Lewis home furnishings department, then you could be in luck.
For these stores and many more have a tradition of lavishing gifts upon parents who divert from their chosen birth plan to set out their stall, so to speak, in a shop – and as a first-time father some four years ago I was only too aware of the bonuses on offer.
But not for me the lure of a year’s supply of free nappies, a basket full of cod or a nice pair of curtains. No, once I knew my original little rocker was on the way the potential birthing pool was strictly limited. Read the rest of this entry »

Fresh from blitzing Europe on Give It A Name 2009, those crazy electro-rockers from across The Pond – Innerpartysystem – have decided to document exactly what goes in to a tour with one of the world’s most exciting new bands.
Yep, with six-track EP Heart Of Fire just three weeks away and a slew of summer festival appearances lined up, there’s just no stopping the oh-so-cool quartet right now as they forge ahead in the race to become the globe’s biggest dance rock crossover act.
Far from an obvious choice on GIAN 09, the triumphant IPS blew away the majority of the rock and metal thoroughbreds on show to prove their credentials as a band every bit as loud as they are proud. Read the rest of this entry »

It is more than a decade since the death knell was sounded for one of music’s best-loved formats but vinyl is back.
In an age when downloads dominate the marketplace, the very antithesis of the digital age is alive and kicking. Read the rest of this entry »

Always on the look out for something a little bit wacky and very much rocky we’ve landed upon this little gem from emerging quartet Wall Street Riots.
With their new EP Playground Politics due for release next month the guys have lifted the delightful Dr King from the four-track taster and turned it into rushonrock’s video of the week! And it rocks.
Singer Charlie Cosser clearly doesn’t lack confidence when he says: “We are a breath of fresh air. We don’t act like many bands and with us there’s no script. Read the rest of this entry »

Reborn NWOBHM stars Saxon (pictured) return to the fray with a live show in Newcastle on Friday – supported by the delectable Doro Pesch.
But if you like your rock more youthful then check out the fantastic Fightstar at the o2 Academy on Wednesday – a gig which goes head to head with funk rock favourite Dan Reed at Trillians.
The man responsible for the superb Rainbow Child finds support in the shape of rising US stars 4Bitten and we’re hoping to bring you news on both. But if that platter of rock isn’t enough then Sunday sees Therapy? entertain the Academy riding high on the back of latest release Crooked Timber. And as for the rest of this week’s highlights… Read the rest of this entry »

Almighty star Ricky Warwick goes head to head with the might of Heaven & Hell this week as we look ahead to the best of tomorrow’s releases – today.
The workaholic Ulsterman releases his latest stab at solo salvation in the shape of the barnstorming yet stripped down Belfast Confetti while Tony Iommi and Ronnie James Dio unite again to unleash some frankly spooky metal on the masses.
Plus there’s a look at a new (at least to us) US outfit called Noxious – can this hard hitting quintet really kick up a stink in the rock world? Wait and see… Read the rest of this entry »
Alice Cooper – Freedom (Cooper/Roberts) b/w Time To Kill (Cooper/Roberts) 1988
Culled from the often overlooked but incredibly cool Raise Your Fist And Yell record, this single was released in the UK to coincide with Coop’s 1988 tour of Britain – a jaunt which leaned heavily towards his northern fan base.
Of 10 dates only two took place south of Sheffield with a brace in Edinburgh, two more in the Toon and three back-to-back gigs at Manchester’s Apollo. And this was pre-Poison (the single, not the band) at a time when the original shock rocker was supposedly out of fashion!
Sadly this anthemic classic never gets a look in at Alice’s live shows in the 21st century despite a memorable vocal performance and some superb axe work from the irrepressible Kane Roberts. Read the rest of this entry »

Here at rushonrock we’re always on the look out for something a little bit different and that’s certainly the case with the latest video clip from Floridians Underoath.
The US noise merchants went down a storm on the Give It A Name weekender and have now infiltrated Europe with a live show winning rave reviews and damaging ear drums everywhere.
New single Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear sees Underoath deliver a typically bombastic slice of brooding rock and the accomapnying video fuses animations with a foreboding message – not the kinda clip you want to watch last thing at night.
But it’s exactly the kinda film we want to bring you on rushonrock as we head into another hard rocking weekend. And if you missed out on last year’s Lost In The Sound Of Separation – the band’s latest and greatest album – this song should have you heading for the nearest iTunes store at pace.
