Tyler Bryant backstory

Tyler Bryant is a two-time Grammy award winning producer, engineer and songwriter whose solo career is only just getting started.

Rushonrock first came across the outlaw country outlier around 2013 and the release of The Shakedown’s 2013 debut Wild Child.

By then Bryant was already sharing stages with some of the biggest names in rock and he’s opened up for Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns N Roses and more.

With his Shakedown project on permanent hiatus — as recently as 2024 Electrified bagged our Record Of The Week — the Nashville-based Maverick is flying solo.

And when Bryant’s not penning his own material he’s producing artists including Rodney Crowell, Larkin Poe, Ruthie Foster, Frankie Ballard and more.

Experience gained in stadiums and studios the world over has helped one of country rock’s most exciting talents hone his compelling craft.

And his Music City base — Crosstie Recordings — is fast becoming a hub for some of Tennessee’s best new sounds.

In Tyler Bryant’s own words

“It’s not every day that you get to make up a tune with a hero. As a Texan, I grew up on Rodney Crowell’s records.

“My early blues explorations landed 15-year-old me at a party in California where I met Rodney for the first time.

“I had no idea then that, 19 years later, I’d be producing an album for him.

“At the tail end of making Rodney’s latest album — Airline Highway — we found ourselves sitting in my studio with a couple of acoustic guitars.

“We both have a deep appreciation for low down dirty blues and when my right thumb started riding the A string of my old Kalamazoo acoustic, Rodney started spitting out lines.

“We laughed this song into existence.”

The verdict on Screwed & Tattooed

The name Tyler Bryant’s become synonymous with classy country rock and his solo output continues to bolster a compelling blues-based, Southern-flavoured back catalogue.

Screwed & Tattooed’s secret is in its simplicity — it’s an uncomplicated, uncluttered, unassuming tune that’s relatable, raucous and raw.

That’s Bryant all over.

His working class ethos and refreshing self-awareness means his music’s as authentic as it’s awe-inspiring.

Bryant’s in tune with his roots and his storytelling’s incisive — Screwed & Tattooed’s yet another nailed-on narrative sure to chime with fans old and new.

The axe work’s on point, the vocals dig deep and the production’s crisper than a spring morning on Broadway.

Screwed & Tattooed is Bryant at his bouldering best.
