Vacuous backstory
Formed by vocalist Jo Chen and guitarist Michael Brodsky in 2019, Vacuous have quickly established themselves as a one of UK death metal’s hottest prospects.
Dreams Of Dysphoria “truly put the fear into death metal” according to Rushonrock back in ’22 – and that stunning debut made it into our albums of the year list.
Since then, the London act have signed to Relapse Records… and they’ll be releasing their new album, In His Blood, via the US label later this month.
Stress Positions is our second taste of the new record, following the title track’s unveiling last month.
In the band’s own words
“Equal parts unhinged aggression and mournful gloom, Stress Positions is a perfect snapshot of what we aimed to accomplish with this record.
“By far the most challenging song for us to perform and record, this is us pushing ourselves to our breaking point.”
The verdict on Stress Positions
Thanks to the likes of Slimelord, Coffin Mulch, Vacivus and Cryptic Shift, UK death metal has been gaining international recognition of late.
And Vacuous’ appearance on the Relapse roster shows just how powerful the British underground has become.
Frankly, it’s no surprise that the legendary label snapped up this quintet, given the quality of songs like Stress Positions.
A vicious whirlwind of feral chaos, the song balances churning riffrey with soul-freezing leads, and glows with an unverrving, spectral light.
Inventive and incisive, Stress Positions is another enticing glimpse into the band’s new opus.
What’s next for Vacuous?
In His Blood will be released on February 28.
The band have lined up a full UK tour in support of the release. Vacuous will be hitting: Moor Beer Vaults, London (April 11); The Star Inn, Ashford (April 12); The Hope & Ruin, Brighton (April 13); The Gryphon, Bristol (April 14); Billy Bootleggers, Nottingham (April 15); The Lubber Fiend, Newcastle (April 16); The Flying Duck, Glasgow (April 17 ); and Damaged Goods, Leeds (April 18).
