Jaime Kyle backstory

The first female rock artist to be signed to a major record deal out of Nashville, Jaime Kyle has always been a creative force of nature.

Her albums The Passionate Kind, Back From Hollywood and The Best Of My Heart showcased a heady mix of AOR, country and classic rock.

And it wasn’t long before Heart’s Nancy Wilson and country megastar Faith Hill latched on to Kyle’s songwriting prowess.

Wilson recorded Stranded and Hill shot to number one on the back of the brilliant Wild One.

Classic Rock AOR listed Kyle in their All Time Top Females in Rock and her dazzling Ramblin’ Man Fair debut wowed UK fans.

Rushonrock revealed that stunning 2019 set in Kent ‘threw up a series of unexpected treats’ and pre-pandemic there was talk of more trips across the Pond.

Now Kyle has hooked up with another Ramblin’ Man favourite in the shape of Kris Barras and the pair’s striking Driving With The Brakes On collab oozes understated cool.

In Jaime Kyle’s own words:

Driving With The Brakes On came up in a conversation I had with my sister.

“Newly divorced and just starting to date she said ‘It’s like driving with the brakes on!’.

“I had stayed single for a long time and I said ‘Yes it is’.

“You want to fall in love fast but you don’t really know the person.

“So, at the same time you’re thinking ‘do I stop dating other people or do I go on with this person and keep going?’.

“Some people hide and some people show up.

“I told my sister she would know when it’s right and it would be all green lights and go, go, go!

“It’s about wanting to go on but you keep hitting roadblocks.”

The verdict on Driving With The Brakes On

It really shouldn’t come as any surprise…

…but throwing together Jaime Kyle and Kris Barras is a masterstroke.

The former’s alluring vocal fused with the latter’s bluesy groove makes for a seriously sassy summer anthem.

Layers of retro-fuelled keys and an earworm of a riff underpin a rootsy, riotous return to form for red hot Kyle.

But what about that blazing Barras solo? Just brilliant.

Think Alanis Morissette jamming with ZZ Top and you’re halfway there as Driving With The Brakes On suddenly accelerates through the gears.

Kyle’s ear for a tune is still killer and another shot at mainstream success surely beckons.
