Greek progressive metal act Playgrounded have given us a taste of their forthcoming second album with a new single, The Swan.

The track is taken from The death of Death, which will be released on Pelagic Records on March 18.

Playgrounded formed in 2007 and since then, have released 2012’s Athens EP and a full-length debut album, In Time With Gravity, which appeared in 2017.

The quintet – who spend most of their time in the Netherlands – include main composer and producer Orestis Zafeirou, who is a graduate from the Institute of Sonology of the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, a department focused on electronic music education and production research, and vocalist and co-producer Stavros Markonis, an Amsterdam conservatoire graduate and award-winning film and TV composer.

The album was recorded at MD Recording Studios by Nikos Michalodimitrakis, a long-time collaborator of Markonis in film productions.

Mixing was handled by C.A.Cederberg (known for his work with Leprous and Shining ) in Kristiansand, Norway and the album was mastered by George Tanderø in Oslo.

Commenting on The Swan, Zafeirou said: “The lyrics set the premise for the rest of the album: desperate or fascinating, one’s relation to the world that surrounds us is grounded to the very matter of which we are made.”
