Young reviewer Aidan Lumley (aged 11) attended his first ever rock concert at the weekend and where better to start than with a genuine A-lister oozing quality and charisma?

Sebastian Bach was busy so our roving reporter checked out his ultimate guitar hero Slash – here’s what he he had to say about the former Guns N Roses star:

This was my first gig so I didn’t know what to expect. But I knew it would be energetic because it was the one and only Slash!

And sure enough I wasn’t disappointed. When the lights went out there was weird funfair music for the intro. but when Slash came out the cheer was the loudest noise I have ever heard – you couldn’t hear yourself think. Even louder than the music!

The band had the best possible opener with You’re A Lie and then they really got the crowd going with Nightrain (one of the best Guns N Roses songs from their first album). One of the best things about the show was the setlist. Most of the songs were from the excellent new album World On Fire which included my favourites Withered Delilah and Shadow Life. But the highlight was the amazing title track World On Fire. The crowd were buzzing and up on their feet and singing their heads off.

The only downside to the night was the incredibly long guitar solo in Rocket Queen which seemed to be never ending. But Slash and the boys soon got the crowd screaming again with Anastasia, the G’n’R classic Sweet Child O Mine and the closing track Slither.

The crowd wanted more and the band returned to a standing ovation. To close the night of dreams they chose the perfect song – PARADISE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! In time to the beat cannons fired glitter paper out into the standing fans adding to the party feeling.

For a first concert the standard was set pretty high. Is it Download next dad ?
