It’s that time of the year when we turn the spotlight on the bands you simply can’t afford to miss at this year’s typically eclectic 2014 Download Festival.
As usual RUSHONROCK will be on site for the full three days bringing you the very best news and reviews from the UK’s biggest and best rock and metal fest.
And to get you in the mood we’ll be pointing you in the direction of the cream of the crop – with buzz band Rival Sons next up.
Band: Rival Sons
When: Friday June 13 18.00-18.40
Where: The Zippo Encore Stage
Who: The next big thing about to break into the mainstream. Four albums in and the US quartet is on fire with new record Great Western Valkyrie – tipped to crash the UK top 10 on Sunday. Mixing retro classic rock with a modern edge, Rival Sons have soaked up the very best of 70s cool and crafted a sound perfectly suited to 2014.
Why: Frontman Jay Buchanan is from the old school when it comes to putting on a show. An enchanting entertainer and a haunting singer to boot, the face of Rival Sons is worth a visit to the Zippo Encore Stage alone. Think the bastard son of Jim Morrison, classic Coverdale and Mick Jagger.
Listen out for: Pressure And Time from 2011’s album of the same name.
Fact or fiction? Rival Sons once opened up for Judas Priest across the UK.
What we said: ‘…beyond the image were four musicians at the top of their game unmoved by expectation and unerring in the commitment to their craft. This was as far removed from a conventional festival set as it was possible to imagine but the Sons don’t have much time for convention. Never have had.’ From review of 2013 Download Festival set.
