We’ll be tipping you off with our ones to watch in 2012 in the New Year but rest assured the consistently impressive UFO will demand top billing next year.

With new album Seven Deadly recently dropping on the rushonrock decks we thought it was about time we gave it a whirl.

And so good is the band’s latest offering – due for release towards the end of February – that it’s keeping Mariah Carey’s Christmas song off the stereo.

Seven Deadly hits stores a couple of weeks before UFO embark on full UK and Irish headline tour taking in 16 dates.

And although he’s bound to be just a little biased Tommy Newton, who engineered the new record, revealed: “Phil Mogg has never sounded better!”

With Pete Way’s future still shrouded in doubt UFO are still being touted as a quartet ahead of next year’s tour with Mogg joined by Paul Raymond, Andy Parker and Vinnie Moore.

But with the bass slot vacant there’s every chance the towering rhythm king – last seen guesting with Michael Schenker – could return to the fold in 2012.
