Love/Hate – She’s An Angel (Skid) b/w One More Round (Skid) 1990
Perhaps best known for the anthemic Blackout In The Red Room, sleaze rock stars Love/Hate enjoyed a purple patch of creativity and commercial success heading into the 1990s.
Boasting the big hair and good looks vital to make any headway in the music business during that time, the LA-based band were also capable of fusing post-Chillis funk and snippets of electronica to their power chords and crashing riffs.
She’s An Angel boasted a memorable ‘yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah’ refrain but mixed ballad-esque acoustics with a raucous chorus – frontman Jizzy pear (real name Jim Robinson) on fine form.
The single hit number 86 on the UK charts and the band was always bigger on British soil than they ever were back home. A couple of years later Love/Hate enjoyed their one and only Top 40 hit with Wasted In America, the title track of their second album and, for the great majority of fans, the last time the band would register on the rock radar.
But the original line-up is back and firing on all cylinders – with hopes high for a new CD of original material sometime in 2010. Fingers crossed.
