Ginger, lead singer of The Wildhearts, has opened the door to an unlikely reunion with the Quireboys after exclusively revealing to rushonrock he’d love to join his former band’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
The Quireboys will mark two decades since the release of their seminal A Bit Of What You Fancy record this December with a headline UK tour – culminating in a Newcastle o2 Academy show on December 20. And Ginger is ready to put past differences to one side if the opportunity to join his old band should arise.
“I was talking to Nigel (Mogg, ex-Quireboys bass player) just last week about how great it would be to join him and Guy Bailey (Quireboys founder member) on stage again,” said Ginger. “But I’ve looked at the schedules and I don’t think I’m in the country at the right time.”
Ginger is, in fact, in London on December 17 to celebrate his birthday at the city’s Garage venue – the same night the Quireboys play Liverpool’s o2 Academy. But it remains to be seen whether he will take the opportunity to fly up to Glasgow the following night and join Spike and co. for what would be a remarkable appearance at the city’s Cathouse Club.
What is for certain is that The Wildhearts play Newcastle’s o2 Academy on September 28 and rushonrock will be there to report on one of the North East’s favourite sons. We’ll also be bringing you a full interview with Ginger right here very soon.
