Whether landing inside Q Magazine’s Top Five Metal Bands (the popular monthly hardly has a reputation for unearthing rock’s rising stars) is good or bad remains open to debate but there’s no doubt The Ghost Of A Thousand are making waves across the board these days.
Signed to cult US indie label Epitaph and ready to release latest album New Hopes, New Demonstrations in June, the Brighton crew are ready to carve their name into hard rock history. And that process starts in earnest next Tuesday when TGOAT debut new single Bright Lights on the BBC Radio One Rock Show.
Now that particular programme may have gone downhill since the much missed Tommy Vance parted ways with the Beeb some years ago but it’s still a key platform for rockers young and old. And showcasing their new tune on national radio really can’t do the south coast quintet any harm at all.
But the real bonus for old fans and potential converts alike is the fact that once Bright Lights has been given its first radio airing it will be available as a free download for 48 hours. Yes, as soon as Daniel P. Carter has done the business on the Rock Show all you bargain hunters should head straight for www.theghostof1000.com where the track will be yours for nothing.
Sadly there’s no sign of the band heading up to the North East anytime soon. But a quick trip down the road to Leeds On May 24 will find TGOAT in full flow at the 2009 Slamdunk Festival, staged at the city’s university. Start saving your petrol money now.
