Stuck for a way to pound your brain into next month or simply want to compare Mustaine’s mob to the mighty Metallica ahead of next month’s Arena gig? Then your presence is required at Newcastle’s o2 Academy tonight for what promises to be an early contender for metal mash-up of the year.

Not only are Megadeth in town as they break from the Priest Feast but they’re bringing along fellow Feasters Testament to add an even angrier touch to a potentially furious show.

Now it’s a while since us rushonrockers have witnessed the deliciously devilish ‘Deth in the flesh – it was way back in 1999 and their fabled support slot at Iron Maiden’s sell-out Paris show. But we’re expecting great things from a band our hazy memories seem to suggest we first saw supporting Queensryche at Newcastle City Hall (and correct us if we’re wrong) around 20 years ago.

Mustaine might have his critics but there’s no doubting the class of the man once he has an axe in his hands and a mic in front of his mouth. Not one to do things by halves it’s rare that he delivers anything less than a full-on metal masterpiece.

As always we’ll be bringing you the first review right here – assuming we get in. Here’s hoping.
