What better way to warm up for Hard Rock Hell III than with new releases from New York Dolls’ Steve Conte (pictured) and the Quireboys?
We review and rate the latest records by both artists right here.
But if funk metal is more your bag then the return of old favourites Living Colour should brighten up the dreariest of December days. Read the rest of this entry »

In the build up to this hotly anticipated gig it was a case of more questions than answers. Would a band out on the road with AC/DC for the best part of a year still have the hunger and stamina to make a success of their long awaited UK headline tour?
How would Everyday Demons come across live? And have one of 2008’s brightest prospects turned potential into star quality under the watchful eye of Brian Johnson and co.?
So many questions and only one Answer. But what a convincing Answer it was. Read the rest of this entry »
Spinal Tap – Bitch School (Smalls/St Hubbins/Tufnel) b/w Springtime (Smalls/St Hubbins/Tufnel) & Talk With Tap Pt1 1992
For any fan of seminal spoof meisters Spinal Tap, the lure of a shaped ‘mini Stonehenge’ picture disc was too much to resist.
Bitch School preceded the band’s early 90s comeback album Break Like The Wind and lyrically it was right up there with the Tap’s most socially sensitive work.
Using the Stonehenge imagery was a masterstroke and including the first part of an exclusive interview with the band made this seven incher an instant collector’s item. Read the rest of this entry »

As a youth Alice Cooper was considered talented enough to win a college scholarship on the back of his long distance running. That natural level of endurance has served him well.
Who could have imagined Alice, at the height of his late 70s excess, would still be walking, let alone running, well into his seventh decade on this brutal planet? And yet, like a rampaging can of human Red Bull, he possesses energy enough to fuel one of rock’s theatrical triumphs night after night after night. Read the rest of this entry »

This week Self Made Man asks ‘what if?’. What if our favourite classic rocker did’t write down his thoughts every week?
What if he is really a fan of 70s disco and 90s rap? What if the rock facade is all a front?
And what if Deep Purple had omitted Smoke On The Water from their live set early doors? These are questions only Self Made Man can answer so click on the page link above.

He’s one of the most prolific music makers on the planet and halfway through his new four-album cycle Devin Townsend shows no signs of slowing down just yet!
With the action packed Addicted! out now and a series of tours planned for 2010 we’ll be hearing a lot more from Steve Vai’s former sidekick in the next 12 months.
But right now we hear what makes the man from Vancouver tick. Read the rest of this entry »

Weird and wonderful metal monsters Finntroll have revealed new record Nifelvind will be released next February and the band is promising its most diverse work to date.
Recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios, the album’s cover artwork was again supplied by the band’s own guitarist Skrymer.
And the doom-laden Finns explained: “After tough and hectic weeks in the studio, due to lack of time and summer festivals, we are now really, really pleased with the results. Read the rest of this entry »

Maybe it’s too early to make this wild and wonderful claim but is Newcastle about to reclaim its title as one of the UK’s hotbeds of rock?
A series of sold-out Academy dates in 2009, coupled with a vibrant club scene and forthcoming arena dates with two of the region’s favourite sons, Paul Rodgers and Mark Knopfler, suggest as much.
And glowing endorsements from bands as diverse as The Answer, Machine Head and New Generation Superstars imply a city once famous for boasting the biggest rock club in Europe is about to bounce back. Read the rest of this entry »
