Mackenzie Carpenter backstory
Hailing from the small town of Hull, GA, Mackenzie Carpenter started writing music with her brothers and singing in a church.
She kickstarted her career as a songwriter for Lily Rose’s 2021 number onehit Villain and has since co-written songs including the Top 15 single I’m Not Pretty.
Her 28th Of June collab with Megan Moroney smashed it out of the park and she’s opened for Moroney, Miranda Lambert, Jake Owen, Parker McCollum and more.
Since signing her record deal with The Valory Music Co. in 2022, Carpenter has been named to MusicRow Magazine’s ‘Next Big Thing’ Artists Class Of 2025.
And she was one of Spotify’s Hot Country 2024 Artists To Watch, named to CMT’s Next Women of Country class of 2023 and highlighted as a Nashville Briefing Artist To Watch 2023.
Last year Carpenter dropped a trio of country bangers as Sound Of A Heartbreak, Only Girl and (Holler) Boots Oncaptured the mood and maintained momentum.
In Mackenzie Carpenter’s own words
“I Wish You Would is a fun, flirty tune about wanting someone to be more forward, quit guessing and make the first move.
“It’s about craving a spark with someone and longing for more than a few glances with that person you’ve noticed from across the bar.
“Midland has always been a dream collaboration and they bring a smooth classic vibe to the song.”
The verdict on I Wish You Would
One of the many reasons that Rushonrock’s all over country music these days is its propensity for wild reinvention and jaw-dropping rock collabs.
But there’s something to be said for the genre’s traditional sound.
Midland bring that in spades and this made-for-the-trio hook up with the sassy Mackenzie Carpenter is a modern classic.
Filled with familiar country tropes — cowboy hats, drinking and dancing — it always veers close to toe-curling cliché.
But Carpenter and Mark Wystrach are a vocal match made in heaven and they elevate the average to the exceptional.
I Wish You Would is a wonderful throwback steeped in retro goodness.
Carpenter’s always had the tools to make country cool. With Midland she’s nailed it.
