Jessica Lynn backstory
Flamboyant New Yorker Jessica Lynn first registered on the Rushonrock radar at 2017’s Ramblin’ Man Fair.
A set fusing country flair with a rousing rock and roll medley made the Mote Park masses sit up and take notice.
And we’ve been following Lynn’s progress ever since.
The accomplished all-rounder started singing in bands aged 13 and appeared destined for the top pre-Covid.
2020 ballad Run To was a melodic rock triumph.
But routine sinus surgery threatened to derail a promising career as Lynn was forced to battle post-op complications and muscle tension dysphonia (MTD).
And there was even talk she might never sing again.
New album All I Own is the bullish response to the most testing of times.
And Lynn’s in great shape to write the next chapter of a colourful career.
In Jessica Lynn’s own words
“Something ‘Bout You is a feelgood story about falling in love and having the most amazing adventures together.
“There is something nostalgic about the song and I hope it brings everyone listening back to a really special time in their lives.
“The video is all about how music can connect with people around the world, many of which don’t even speak the same language.
“That’s such an incredible feeling.
“The places I’ve gotten to see through performing, the amazing people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve been so blessed to have by doing what I love to do, truly makes me positively reflect on my journey.
“Just like Something ‘Bout You says — I thank God for this life every single day.”
The verdict on Something ‘Bout You
At the drop of a hat, Jessica Lynn can switch from country gal to soulful diva and pop princess to sister of swing.
But she’s surely at her best rocking out.
And Something ‘Bout You is a glorious throwback to the late 80s when everyone from Cher to Belinda Carlisle was crashing the charts on the back of a radio friendly riff.
Uplifting, passionate and packing a considerable punch, it’s Lynn’s best new tune for some time.
It’s easy to imagine peak Bon Jovi taking a soft rock earworm all the way to the top.
John Waite and John Parr would have been all over this banger back in the day.
And during a decade when super produced power ballads ruled the airwaves, Something ‘Bout You would be something special.
Perhaps it’s an anthem out of time but Lynn revels in her roots.
And her fresh take on a classic sound never comes across as mere cliché.
Something ‘Bout You is something else.
