Unto Others backstory
Reborn as a result of their Idle Hands rebrand, Unto Others have spent the best part of four years honing their sound and ripping up the metal rule book.
2021’s Strength proved strong enough to earn Rushonrock Record Of The Week status.
And the Strength II…Deep Cuts EP doubled down on some seriously dark, groove-laden metal.
Gabriel Franco (vocals), Sebastian Silva (guitars), Brandon Hill (bass) and Colin Vranizan (drums) have put enough distance between Unto Others and their former band to focus on the future.
And new album Never Neverland is touted as the quartet’s first fully collaborative body of work.
Self-confessed control freak Franco has loosened the reins and, by all accounts, unleashed some new kind of gothic hell.
Count us in.
In Gabriel Franco’s own words
“I’ve always wanted to do a power ballad and I think this might be the closest we ever get.
“A goth power ballad maybe.
“Sebastian’s [Silva, guitarist] solo in this one is my favourite of the record.
“He really did a phenomenal job.”
The verdict on Angel Of The Night
Gabriel Franco’s goth-tinged, trad metal-leaning crew know how to reinvent the wheel and Angel Of The Nightis another prime example of pushing the boundaries.
It’s like Depeche Mode doing doom or a Sisters Of Mercy/Metallica collab (and we need that) as Unto Others reveal their most ‘radio friendly’ single yet.
Franco admits he’s a big fan of Sebastian Silva’s solo and he’s a shrewd judge.
It’s the evocative axe work midway through a passionate power ballad that sets this song apart — injecting the laid-back Cure-styled refrain with some much-needed hard rock adrenaline.
Angel Of The Night might be typical Unto Others as it toys with convention and jumps genres.
But this is the sound of a band that’s long since laid the groundwork ahead of a next level assault.
With Angel Of The Night, Unto Others’ day has come.
