She Burns Red backstory
It’s not been an easy road for bullish Scots rockers She Burns Red.
But with debut album Out Of Darkness finally poised to see the light of day, could the tide finally be turning for the hotly tipped quartet?
When James McCulloch was diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome in 2017, the She Burns Red vocalist/bassist was almost paralysed.
Two years later and vocalists/guitarist Andy Moore faced a life-changing brain operation.
Then came the pandemic.
And a cost-of-living crisis.
And the almost inevitable line-up changes.
But still She Burns Red refused to give up on their rock and roll dream.
And with the critically acclaimed Toby Jepson-produced Take Back Tomorrow EP in their back pocket, the band cracked on.
New members Naz Scanferlato and Scott Hanlon (ex-Anchor Lane) have bolstered the ranks.
And the Matt Elliss (Massive Wagons/Black Spiders) produced Out Of Darkness is tipped to be one of the debuts of 2023.
She Burns Red smashed their Kickstarter album campaign target within two days and bagged a slot as opening act on September’s South Of Salem tour.
The reworked Crosshairs marks the end of the beginning for one of the UK’s most talked about new bands.
In the band’s own words
“Crosshairs speaks of bad relationships and how they can affect you.
“It’s in these desperate moments that you’re looking towards hope when all around you seems lost.
“It is far too easy to lose sight of what you have and blame others for what is happening to you.
“Sometimes the answer to the question of ‘what is wrong’ is yourself.”
The verdict on Crosshairs
There’s a rocket-fuelled Wildhearts-meets-Foo Fighters groove underpinning this gargantuan blast of gutsy hard rock.
The reworked version of Crosshairs boasts razor-sharp riffs and a riotous sense of urgency.
And it’s She Burns Red at their incendiary, explosive best.
This sizzling new take on a firm fan favourite proves James McCulloch and Andy Moore are in no mood to mess about.
Their band’s time is now and it’s time to rise from the ashes of myriad setbacks.
She Burns Red are firing on all cylinders with this canny reimagining of a modern classic.
Crosshairs is a cut above.
