The Quireboys backstory
It’s 16 months since The Quireboys split into two distinct camps.
Sadly, time really hasn’t been a great healer where an ongoing dispute over naming rights is concerned.
But both versions of the band have used a fresh start to forge an exciting future.
And the Guy Griffin-fronted Quireboys continue to ramp up expectation levels by drip feeding tracks from forthcoming long player The Band Rolls On…
Dominated by all-star collaborations with Joe Elliott, Angry Anderson, Dan Reed, Ryan Roxie and more, it’s a record of rebirth.
And those who saw the band share the main stage at Hellfest last month, alongside Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe, will confirm these Quireboys are in cracking form.
Midway through a lengthy US and Canadian tour, alongside Enuff Z’Nuff, it’s clear the Griffin-fronted crew don’t intend to slow down anytime soon.
In frontman Guy Griffin’s own words
“It was so great working with the Buckcherry guys.
“We’re two bands with different styles but both are solid rock n roll bands that have many of the same influences .
“I love Medicine. It’s just a classic feelgood rock n roll song for the summer.
“To sing alongside Josh Todd is very special and Stevie is such a good guy and all round musician.
“I hope everyone’s gonna enjoy this!”
The verdict on Medicine
Guy Griffin’s unlikely mid-career makeover continues at pace and Medicine’s the latest example of a musician reborn.
Thrust up front and centre following the decision to part company with former band mate Spike, the accomplished songwriter took time to adapt to a largely unfamiliar role.
But Griffin’s gradually grown in confidence and remastered his craft.
His Tom Petty-meets-Ray Davies lilt suddenly sounds like the perfect fit as The Quireboys plot a bold new course.
And Griffin juxtaposes some searingly honest lyrics with Medicine’s smooth summer groove.
Buckcherry’s Josh Todd and Stevie D add a touch of class to this canny collaboration.
In fact the former threatens to steal the show with his sleazy, offbeat cameo.
It’s been a painful period for those on both sides of The Quireboys’ divide.
But Medicine’s cure-all quality provides a much-needed shot in the arm.
What’s next for The Quireboys
The Band Rolls On… will be released by Off Yer Rocka in December.
Ten dates remain on the band’s North American tour with Enuff Z’Nuff and Bad Marriage.
The Quireboys play the O2 Kentish Forum on September 2.
