Nestor backstory
The hottest name in melodic rock might have been on a 30-year hiatus.
But five friends from the Swedish town of Falköping are making up for lost time.
After pipping Houston and Crazy Lixx to bag Rushonrock’s Melodic Rock Album of 2021, Nestor signed to Napalm Records.
And new single Signed In Blood will feature on this year’s expanded version of peerless debut Kids In A Ghost Town.
On a riff-fuelled mission to bring back the glory days of the late 80s, Nestor trade in catchy choruses and soaring solos.
And if they’ve already been talked about in the same breath as Steel Panther then these boys are the real deal.
Mystery surrounds the band’s self-imposed three-decade disappearance.
But the decision to re-emerge from the hair metal shadows has given fans of saccharine-sweet melodic rock a welcome shot in the arm.
Signed In Blood’s retro-styled video peels back the layers on a band rooted in the past.
But Nestor are the future for a generation schooled by MTV, Metal Hammer, Tommy Vance and the Sunset Strip.
In Nestor frontman Tobias Gustavsson’s own words
“Signed In Blood is a song and video about true friendship and brotherhood!
“The ambition with the re-release of the album is to extend and deepen the story of Nestor.
“By adding three new songs, we’re letting the listener once again go back in time and remember how it used to be in the late 80s!”
The verdict on Signed In Blood
Any kid who ever dreamed of emulating Ratt, Poison or peak Def Leppard needs to sign up to Signed In Blood.
Nestor have nailed the look and sound of the late 80s with a track that brings a tear to the eye for any 80s rocker.
Teenage dreams of arena stardom, bedroom walls decked out in glossy posters and denim unforms at every turn make for a nostalgic heritage fest.
But stick with a classy video and you’ll understand the true nature of Nestor’s retro-fuelled mission.
Signed In Blood is all about music’s power to bond lifelong friends.
It’s about the passion of rock fans and the unifying effect of the music they love.
And in Nestor’s case it’s about never giving up and reliving those dreams.
Tobias Gustavsson’s achingly cool vocal underpins 2022’s catchiest track yet.
And the Malmsteen-esque intro. to a raging solo offers a respectful nod to the Swedes’ fellow countryman and architect of late 80s classic Odyssey.
Signed In Blood? It’s a sign of the times.
