Plush backstory
Slash doesn’t let just any band tag along for the ride when it comes to picking opening acts for his headline shows.
But Plush aren’t any old band.
In fact they’re a very young band…but age is no barrier to talent.
And if there’s time yet to focus on a firm identity, it’s remarkable just how assured this fledgling four-piece really is.
Previous single Hate took up a 17-week residence on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart.
Few would bet against Better Off Alone doing just as well.
Both earworms are culled from the band’s self-titled debut album.
And there’s plenty more where that came from on the impressive late 2021 drop.
Prior to hooking up with Slash later this month, Plush supported Evanescence, Halestorm, Seether, Mammoth WVH, Daughtry and Sevendust.
But it’s no wonder the big names are drawn to this classy quartet.
Hard rock, heavy blues and some post-grunge muscle underpin a sound that’s as affecting as it is addictive.
Plush play on your favourite new band.
In Plush’s own words:
“Better Off Alone is a song about realizing what’s best for you and then doing it. I really hope everyone connects with this song and enjoys it!” (Moriah Formica, vocals)
“I love the musicality of Better Off Alone! The tom groove during the verses is a lot of fun to play. I’m very excited to play this song live, as I believe the crowd will really be able to get into this song!” (Brooke Colucci, drums)
“I feel Better Off Alone represents our chemistry as a band and showcases our vision of empowerment while also highlighting each of our own musical personalities. I hope you all love it as much as we do!” (Bella Perron, guitar)
“This song is not only representative of heartbreak and anger but also the independence of those feelings and the person who is causing you pain. Leaving is never easy but at times it is necessary. These are the moments in which you truly will be Better Off Alone.” (Ashley Suppa, bass)
The verdict on Better Off Alone
Better Off Alone? No, you’re better off with Plush.
One of the biggest noises on the US hard rock scene continues to cause a stir.
And Better Off Alone is an anthem for empowerment, self-confidence and kick-ass attitude.
Moriah Formica’s feisty vocals scream no-holds-barred front from a band that means business.
In tandem with Bella Perron, Plush’s frontwoman powers through a fret-fuelled feast of frank self-reflection.
And rhythm section Ashley Suppa and Brooke Colucci drive home a track destined to turn the heads of Slash fans across America.
Plush are technically proficient and always on point.
But are Formica and co. just a little too polished for their own good?
Rock and roll fans love a rough diamond…and Plush aren’t quite that. Yet.
Better Off Alone’s a bit like listening to Halestorm play it safe. Or Kittie caged.
Verdict? B-Plush.
What’s next for Plush
The ambitious quartet hits the road with Slash from February 25.
Plush play Daytona International Speedway in May.
And rumours of a UK and European tour later this year are gathering pace.
