I Remember Everything
Elles Bailey backstory
Widely recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting singer songwriters, blues-tinged Americana-inspired chanteuse Bailey is a special talent.
After bursting onto the scene with the critically acclaimed Wildfire, she returned with the remarkable Road I Call Home.
That adventurous album mixed raw emotion with a smooth production and the inevitable awards followed.
2020 started with a bang for Bailey when Little Piece Of Heaven picked up UK Song Of The Year at the UK Americana Awards.
And she followed up with the coveted Artist Of The Year award at the UK Blues Awards.
As special guest for Grammy Award winner Mike Farris, The Kris Barras Band and King King, Bailey packed in a full touring schedule pre-lockdown.
Her cover of the John Prine classic I Remember Everything is taken from lockdown release Ain’t Nothing But.
In Elles Bailey’s own words:
“I can’t truly put into words the impact that John Prine’s music has had on my life.
“I was so honoured that my version of I Remember Everything was included in the John Prine Tribute Show for AmericanaFest UK.
“I’ve made it no secret how deep my admiration and awe for John’s writing runs.
“So to be involved alongside so many incredible acts — like Billy Bragg, Ida Mae, and John’s sons — is an experience I will treasure forever.
“I’m delighted to say that the recording (featuring Joe Wilkins and Phil King) is out now.”
The verdict on I Remember Everything
Lets’ face it: taking on this emotive John Prine classic is no easy task.
Bettering the original is tougher still.
But Bailey is no ordinary artist and a mix of confidence and reverence runs deep through this sparkling cover.
Joe Wilkins and Phil King pull out all of the stops to ensure no stone is left unturned reinventing I Remember Everything.
And the result is a truly uplifting interpretation of a god standard track.
Bailey has never shied away from ambition.
But she’s always respected the tradition and roots of the music that’s driven an upward career trajectory.
I Remember Everything is a timely reminder of Bailey’s understated brilliance.
