Slash backstory

Grammy-winning American rock guitarist, songwriter and film producer Slash has amassed album sales of more than 100 million copies during a stellar 35-year career.

The coolest cat in a hat was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is a New York Times Best-selling author.

Slash is considered to be one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time and one of the most recognisable faces in pop culture worldwide.

Time Magazine placed the Guns N Roses man at #2 (Jimi Hendrix was #1) in its list of ‘The 10 Greatest Electric Guitar Players’.

And Slash has enjoyed global success with GnR, Slash’s Snakepit, Velvet Revolver and alongside Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

After landing on top of the charts with his first solo album, Slash (2010), he joined Alter Bridge frontman Kennedy to release the Conspirators’ debut album Apocalyptic Love in 2012.

Follow-up World On Fire(2016) debuted to global praise and the album’s title track ascended to #1 on US rock radio.

In 2016 Guns N’ Roses re-united and Slash joined Axl Rose and Duff McKagan for the historic and ongoing world tour which Billboard magazine now ranks as the third highest grossing tour of all time.

Conspirators’ album Living The Dream dropped in 2018 and 2022 will see new long player 4 hit stores — coinciding with a full US headline tour.

In Slash’s own words:

“Musically, I came up with Fill My World at my studio.

“It was just the opening riff and then the underlying chord changes started to come out in my mind.

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to pursue it or not but I had to record it and make a demo.

“I thought ‘I don’t know what the guys are going to think’ because it has a certain sentimental kind of feel to it.

“But I sent it to Myles and he came back with these heartfelt lyrics.

“I thought it was about the loss we’ve all been suffering during this dark period and then he told me it was about his dog.

“I said ‘Well, you know, everybody has had somebody that they love affected by this, so…’”

The verdict on Fill My World

Slash can’t conjure up a signature riff every time he pens a new tune.

But Fill My World fits the bill as far as the world’s most recognisable six-stringer is concerned.

The axe work’s up there with Sweet Child…, November Rain, Slither and Anastasia as an earworm for the ages.

And it’s a fabulous precursor to February album 4.

Slash has always boasted a happy knack for squeezing something extra out of his trusty Les Pauls.

And Fill My World features the iconic GnR man at his free-flowing best.

Once again Myles Kennedy is the perfect foil for his rock and roll partner in crime…

…as the Alter Bridge man slow-builds the atmosphere with heartfelt lyrics and that trademark tone.

In the absence of that much-anticipated new GnR album, fresh material from Slash is the next best thing.

Or maybe it’s the best thing?

It’s a while since Axl Rose and his original sidekick have crafted anything quite as compelling as Fill My World.

What’s next for Slash?

4 is released on February 11 via Gibson Records.

The new album was co-produced by man of the moment Dave Cobb.

Slash feat. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators kick off their US headline tour in Portland on February 8.
