The Hot Damn!
The Hot Damn! backstory
Set to put the ‘super’ back into supergroup, The Hot Damn! has talent to burn.
Gill Montgomery (ex. The Amorettes), Josie O’Toole (ex. Tequila Mockingbyrd), Laurie Buchanan (Aaron Buchanan and the Cult Classics) and Lzi Hayes (Sophie Lloyd Band, New Device) have been there, done that and worn the tie dye tee-shirt.
But this could be their greatest project yet.
Gill (vocals, guitar), Laurie (guitar) and Josie (drums) spent 2019 touring as both The Amorettes and Tequila Mockingbyrd to honour their respective bookings following the departure of members from both bands.
But in early 2020 they recruited Lzi (bass) to complete the new outfit.
And debut single Dance Around heralds a new dawn for groove-laden pop rock.
The four members are familiar faces on the international touring scene.
And you’ll likely have caught one or more laying waste to Download Festival, Bloodstock and T in the Park.
With almost a dozen LP/EP releases to their name, look out for The Hot Damn!’s debut album soon…
In vocalist Gill Montgomery’s own words:
“Dance Around was written at the height of the first lockdown.
“It was a frustrated reaction to the immobile state of the world at that time with the only real motivation being the thought of better times.
“Some of us are lucky enough to escape into our own creativity and live vicariously through that.
“We were aiming for something uplifting and fun that you can dance to.
“Hell, I defy anyone not to move to this!”
The verdict on Dance Around
We did. As soon as we heard it.
And we’re still struggling to stay still now.
Partial to some Blondie? You’ll dig Dance Around.
Like a bit of Belinda Carlisle? This is right up your street.
Love the Bangles? The Hot Damn!’s debut will have you dancing like an Egyptian.
It’s pure power pop with a Thin Lizzy/Black Star Riders solo for good measure.
And even those of us with two left feet are channelling our inner Anton Du Beke every time Dance Around comes around.
The feelgood hit of the summer?
You heard it here first.
What’s next for The Hot Damn!?
A brace of summer headline shows complement a series of festival slots before December’s tour supporting The Dust Coda.
