Manic Street Preachers – Repeat (MSP) b/w Democracy Coma (MSP), Love’s Sweet Exile (MSP) & Stay Beautiful (live) (MSP)
1991 Limited Edition Gatefold Sleeve
At a time when hair metal was at its commercial peak Manic Street Preachers bucked the trend by joining the likes of Therapy? as leaders of rock’s alternative pack.
This four-track 12 incher was the second major label single release from the rising Welsh stars and proved to be one of five top 40 songs culled from the blistering Generation Terrorists album.
And while Repeat, with its Sex Pistols refrain, was far from radio friendly, the brilliant Love’s Sweet Exile struck a chord with music fans everywhere.
For collectors there’s the added bonus of a live version of previous single Stay Beautiful on this gatefold release – recorded at The Marquee for the Mark Goodier (remember him?) show on Radio One.
The Manics may have become overly commercial during the past 20 years.
But tracks like Repeat and Democracy Coma only serve to prove how politically charged and relevant the band once was as they blasted onto the alt rock scene.
And we love the cherry red sleeve enveloping four terrific early 90s tunes.
