Wilson – Right To Rise (Razor & Tie)
Genre: Hard Rock
Despite warm praise from well-placed critics, the woeful Wilson once again prove they have no right to rise whatsoever. If the band’s second album is supposed to be a step up from dreadful debut Full Blast Fuckery then it’s lost on us – once again the Detroit natives have managed to deliver a total dud that lacks direction, authenticity and appeal.
According to the band, Right To Rise reveals a rich seam of diversity. Fair play to the bullish quintet if that’s what they really believe but this is less of a creative leap forward and more of an unconvincing limp towards obscurity.
The title track is an Airbourne-lite attempt at an anthem and the frankly weird Windows Down! (what’s with the exclamation mark?) simply doesn’t work. Hang With Devil and Give Em Hell might have made a ripple 30 years ago but if Wilson will persist in writing such archaic drivel then they must perform the songs like they mean it. Who knows what they mean? And who really cares? Simon Rushworth
