dwld-admatIt’s that time of the year when we turn the spotlight on the bands you simply can’t afford to miss at this year’s typically eclectic 2015 Download Festival.

As usual RUSHONROCK will be on site – come rain or shine – for the full three days bringing you the very best news and reviews from the UK’s biggest and best rock and metal fest.

And to get you in the mood we’ll be pointing you in the direction of the cream of the crop – with Friday night second stage headliners Black Stone Cherry first up.

When: Friday June 12 20.25-21.40

Where: Zippo Encore Stage

Who: The new sound of heavy Southern rock and permanent fixtures on the Castle Donington scene. Flown in for a truncated ‘secret show’ last year, the Kentucky quartet return to the same slot they occupied in unconvincing fashion in 2013. With top five album Magic Mountain causing quite a stir and a series of UK arena headline shows under their belts, expectations are high. But they always are for one of the best live bands on the planet.

Why: This is the redemption set for Black Stone Cherry after the relative disappointment of 2013’s second stage headline show. Going up against Slipknot shouldn’t affect their pulling power with the classic rock crowd guaranteed to choose Chris Robertson and co. over Iowa’s finest. Expect a bullish set from a band with a big point to prove.

Listen out for: Me And Mary Jane – the laid back lead single from 2014’s chart-busting Magic Mountain.

For fans of: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, 38 Special.

What we said: ‘A six-song Greatest Hits set featured Rain Wizard, Blind Man, Lonely Train and a terrific version of White Trash Millionaire as Chris Robertson and co. warmed up for their stint at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. Back to their best after 2013’s seriously ropey second stage headline set the only downside was that BSC didn’t play all night.’ From 2014 Download set.
