Following the critical success of Devin Townsend Project’s latest album Epicloud, as well as the band’s sold-out Retinal Circus performance at London’s legendary Roundhouse venue (the DVD Box Set of this epic show is due to be released in May), a new batch of headline shows have just been announced.
Now touring the US with Gojira, DTP have announced headline shows in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland around a London Brixton Academy triple header featuring Meshuggah and Periphery.
The confirmed headline dates are as follows:
30/04/13 – Glasgow – The Garage
01/05/13 – Aberdeen – The Garage
04/05/13 – Dublin – Academy
05/05/13 – Belfast – The Stiff Kitten
On the May 3 2013, the band will join forces with tech-metal behemoths Meshuggah for a huge co-headline show at Brixton Academy where DTP will close the night’s proceedings. Periphery will be the warm-up act.
“This is an intense turn of events,” said Townsend. “It’s no secret how much love and respect I have for Meshuggah. They are an anomaly in life, let alone in music, as being a perfectly developed entity that only evolves as a result of there being nothing but honesty in their vision. If you have not experienced Meshuggah live, I truly believe you have not witnessed the elite that this genre has to offer, and to be playing alongside of them again is an honour that I don’t take lightly.
“Periphery are a band and a musical entity as well in which I cannot say enough good things about. The potential that band of humans demonstrates together is truly unlimited, and they have a perspective on music that very few folks do, unlimited scope and astounding musicianship. Their new record is beautiful and the people in the band are a constant source of inspiration to me.
“To be allowed to participate in this bill is humbling beyond all explanation, and the Brixton academy is a historic venue that has been on my ‘bucket-list’ to play. By being the best version of myself that I can be we hope to do this show the justice it deserves. An honour and a privilege. We hope to see you there, and the three bands will do you proud. Peace.”
As he mentions, the nights line-up will be rounded out by fast-rising progressive metallers Periphery, who last year released their second album and have most recently been seen touring with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Between The Buried and Me and will be joining Deftones on their US tour.
For Periphery this London show will be the first since they toured Europe last year with Between The Buried And Me and The Safety Fire
Misha Mansoor said: “Meshuggah and Devin Townsend Project are not only 2 bands that I love to death, but they are top notch bands that put on some of the best shows I have ever seen. Periphery is honored and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to be able to share the stage with them, and we know this is going to be an epic night to remember. So get your tickets while you still can. See you there!”
