Fresh from playing each of his last four albums in their entirety, the non-stop bundle of energy that is Devin Townsend is preparing to get back to basics with four eagerly anticipated acoustic shows this week.
Kicking off in Newcastle tomorrow, the multi-talented muso takes his must-see show on the road to Sheffield, Leicester and Stoke before the end of the week. And it’s all a precursor to the unveiling of the eight-disc Contain Us box set due for release in December! Townsend isn’t one to rest on his laurels. And after winning rave reviews for his four back-to-back London shows this month – featuring the albums Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction and Ghost – he’s unplugging and uncluttering.
Townsend’s acoustic shows are renowned for their humour, emotion and crowd interaction and it could well be the last opportunity for some time to witness rock and metal’s ultimate workaholic on these shores.
The promotion of Contain Us will begin to dominate the big man’s attention from next month and he revealed: “The box set is pretty epic. It boasts six CDs and two DVDs full of new material. Plus there’s a 72 page hardcover book and everything including the kitchen sink basically!”
