They might have ditched New York for Newcastle to make the latest in a long line of glittering rock records but guitarist Sylvain Sylvain reckons the New York Dolls have never penned a better batch of tunes.

And after laying down the tracks for Dancing Backward In High Heels in the Toon the band has signed for Tyneside label Global Music.

Global – home to acts including W.A.S.P., Therapy?, Dear Superstar and Killing For Company – own the Blast! Studios complex where the Dolls were holed up making their new record earlier this year. And it seems Sylvain and co. really hit it off with their temporary landlords after inking a European-wide distribution deal for what promises to be a typically rowdy affair.

The Dolls’ guitarist said: “I think this is the most creative record that the New York Dolls, and me and David in particular, have ever done.

“We’ve worked with a lot of great people and I’m not putting anybody down and I’m not trying to compare it with earlier versions of The Dolls. But as far as song-writing goes I think that these are the best songs that we have ever come up with.”

The CD will be packaged with a bonus DVD filmed during the recording of the album, incorporating previous unseen footage from the band’s three “sold out” performances at Newcastle’s The Cluny and four live audio tracks from the same shows.

Released on March 11 across Europe and March 14 in the UK, Dancing Backward In High Heels contains the following tracks:
