They’re a super supergroup with a silly name but there’s no doubt Chickenfoot should be huge by now.

Fronted by Sammy Hagar and featuring riffs from Joe Satriani the US stars delivered a stunning debut last summer.

And as they begin recording their much-anticipated follow-up it’s time to judge Chickenfoot as a live entity.

Needless to say, they rock. But just in case you don’t believe us we review and rate the Get Your Buzz On Live DVD.

Chickenfoot – Get Your Buzz On Live (Eagle Vision)

Get yourself a four pack, maybe a pizza and switch off your mobile phone. This is a special event best enjoyed with alcohol and no distractions as super group Chickenfoot are given the High Def treatment their high end rock deserves.

Rhythm section Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) join Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani for a full set filmed at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix and the show sparkles from start to finish. It’s faultless, in fact.

There’s chemistry, quality and on-stage cool in abundance as four rock and roll hipsters carefully cajole a clearly receptive audience before whipping them into a frenzy. Just how it should be.

With a 13-song set the band’s self-titled debut – which shifted more than 750,000 copies in North America alone – is given an invaluable showcase. Tracks like Soap On A Rope and My Kinda Girl really come alive in the concert arena and set the tone for a superb show.

Hagar sounds as strong as ever while Satch seems happier than ever given a true band environment and the backing of musicians just as talented as he is. Any one of these four big hitters could steal the limelight in their own right but their work together ignores any sense of egotistical flamboyance.

Bog standard bonus features don’t really do much for the Chickenfoot package as a whole but this is all about the 97-minute live performance. It proves the band is serious and here to stay. Roll on album number two.
