duffLegendary Guns N Roses hero Duff McKagan has taken a leaf out of big mate Spike’s book and thrown his weight behind Newcastle United’s promotion push.

The Velvet Revolver and Loaded man is a mad keen sports fan and follows all of the sides in his home city of Seattle. But McKagan chose to follow Arsenal in the Premier League after catching the Gunners on ESPN. Now rushonrock has persuaded the multi-talented muso that relegated Newcastle need his support more. And McKagan said: “I’m backing the black and whites.

“I know I’ll get shit from fans in the rest of the country because I understand how football divides the British. But it’s bad news when you’re relegated and if Newcastle’s good enough for Spike they’re good enough for me.

“Yeah, I’m supporting Newcastle from now on. It’s on record.”

Spike and McKagan first met in the late 80s when the Quireboys supported a fast-emergign Guns N Roses. And the Gunners invited the Geordie band to tour the world with them a couple of years later – only for the latter’s recording commitments to prevent a match made in sleaze rock heaven.
