Motley Crue – You’re All I Need (Sixx/Lee) b/w Wild Side (Sixx/Neil/Lee) 1987
In a vintage year for hair metal Motley Crue made sure they were right at the forefront of the perm and eyeliner brigade by releasing a series of singles from the gargantuan Girls, Girls, Girls record.
This double A-side combined two US back-to-back releases and reached the heady heights of 23 on the UK Top 40. For collectors the original sleeve features a tour itinerary for the band’s forthcoming dates in Britain and Europe with stops in Edinburgh, London, Sheffield and Birmingham.
Tom Werman’s razor sharp production and one of Vince Neil’s most emotional vocal performances make You’re All I Need the perfect follow-up to Crue’s uber ballad Home Sweet Home and it’s no wonder the UK’s lighter-waving generation took this tune to their hearts.
Written by Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, the song demonstrates how the LA sleaze merchants perfectly captured the mood of the MTV generation by honing their previously punky tone and creating a far slicker melodic rock sound. By the time their next album, Dr Feelgood, was selling by the million, Crue had perfected the style.
