To celebrate Friday’s eagerly antcipated release of Metallica’s Death Magnetic, rushonrock has dusted down its fave albums and tracks from the band’s bombastic back catalogue. Each day this week we’ll feature something new so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Master Of Puppets – 12″ LP Picture Disc

For many of us this was the record that started the love affair with the mighty Metallica and to own it on pciture disc is to own a piece of pure rock history. So the sound quality was crap but it looked absolutely awesome.

The title track is still one of THE best Metallica songs you’ll ever hear but for the purist it will take something very good to beat the thumping instrumental Orion. At just over eight ear-crushing minutes this is one of the most intense and intricate pieces of metal you will ever hear. Bar none.

Other highlights include opening cut Battery and the truly destructive Damage, Inc. but it’s difficult to identify a dud track. If, for some reason, you don’t own this record yet then invest in the new heavyweight vinyl reissue and hear Metallica how they were meant to be heard.
