gun43: Gun – Inside Out (Gizzi/Rankin) b/w Back To Where We Started (Gizzi/Rankin) 1989

While the wider population will always remember Gun for their smash hit cover of Cameo’s Word Up! the rock fans among us will probably point to the brilliant Better Days as the first time this Glaswegian quintet came to our attention.

Harvested from the superb Taking On The World album it burst into the Top 40 and secured the Scots rockers support slots with the Rolling Stones and some serious music media attention. But if Better Days broke the band then Inside Out was the better song. Read the rest of this entry »

4Bitten Fruit

4bittenNow trying to name an American/Greek female fronted rock band is going to tax the most avid fans of this fledgling site and until today we couldn’t do it.

But then a bluesy, ballsy, breezy little album landed on the rushonrock decks and suddenly we’re humming along to tracks crafted in Athens, polished in new York and ready to rip up live stages across the UK this spring. It’s called No More Sins and it’s by the potentially brilliant 4Bitten. ufoThis week Self Made Man reveals he went to the same school as a Pet Shop Boy. He went to school?!!

Anyway, what’s this got to do with rock I hear you say? It’s a fair question but all will become clear if you click on the SMM page link above. Or it may become more confused…

peyton1They’re a bit of a mouthful and perhaps not to everyone’s taste but there’s no doubt that The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band have got us hooked.

With double A-side single Mama’s Fried Potatoes/Can’t Pay The Bill out in 10 days our excitement is reaching fever pitch.

And we’ve even got the new video to whet the appetite for one of 2009′s craziest acts. Featuring a real Reverend, his wife and a washboard what’s not to like about the Peyton posse? Read the rest of this entry »

Rock O’ The North…Pt29

Posted by simon On February - 26 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

rock-o-the-northIt is with a great sense of sadness that I pen this week’s blog. I offer my thoughts with a profoundly heavy heart (and a strangely light head). Indeed there is no escaping it. No hiding from it. No ignoring the fact that right here, right now, rushonrock is struggling to coming to terms with a sudden and most shocking loss. Read the rest of this entry »

Anthem’s New Anthem

Posted by simon On February - 26 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

gaslightanthemgreatrushonrock faves The Gaslight Anthem release their new single in the UK next month and once again we’ve grabbed the video clip for your viewing pleasure.

Great Expectations is a pretty apt title for a band everyone’s talking about and a group people will still be talking about long into 2009.

Already lined up to support The Boss at Hyde Park this summer there’s no stopping these canny Yanks with a knack for a penning a cracking tune.   Read the rest of this entry »

Monsters Of Rock

Posted by simon On February - 25 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

eddieWelcome to the first in an occasional series where we check out some of the most frightening men (and women) in rock and metal – and there are a few.

We fete them and rate them, and occasionally berate them. Before keeping our heads down in case we ever meet any of our rogues’ gallery in a dark alley. And that has happened. Read the rest of this entry »

nfg-matt-graysonWith less than a fortnight until the release of their eagerly anticipated Not Without A Fight, celebrated pop punks New Found Glory are stepping up the pace.

You might remember we brought you the band’s whacky press conference a few weeks back and today bass player Ian Grushka goes under the spotlight in the first of the band’s pre-release training videos! Read the rest of this entry »
