Jayler backstory

The new kids on the classic rock block are barely out of short pants.

And yet it’s clear Jayler’s fab four were always born to pull off curtain-like bell bottom flares and flamboyant floral shirts with aplomb.

To say the Midlands band’s music is rooted in the 70s is like saying Jimmy Page is a peerless master of his six-string craft — stating the utterly bleeding obvious.

But just like Kingdom Come and Greta Van Fleet before them, Jayler boast the retro-fuelled juice to give Zeppelin a run for their money.

And what this crazily talented quartet lack in back catalogue credibility they more than make up for in cocksure self-confidence.

Formed in 2022, James Bartholomew and co. dropped debut EP A Piece In Our Time the following year.

Single Lovemaker landed in 2024 with Riverboat Queen offering further compelling evidence that Jayler are the real deal.

And a dazzling debut at this year’s Glastonbury Festival further bolstered the band’s soaring reputation.

In frontman James Bartholomew’s own words

“Riverboat Queen is meant to feel dangerous and a bit out of control.

“We didn’t want it polished.

“It had to hit like the records we grew up on — raw, fast and full of attitude.”

The verdict on Riverboat Queen

When Rushonrock first caught sight of Jayler tearing up this year’s Call Of The Wild festival we made a mental note: don’t sleep on these dudes.

And Riverboat Queen’s a wake-up call to anyone quick to dismiss one of the NWOCR’s most captivating new bands as no more than the next Zeppelin clone off the rank.

Producer George Perks perfectly captures the raw appeal of James Bartholomew’s compelling vocals — while Tyler Arrowsmith takes his flawless fretwork to the next level.

There’s sweet harmonica, a dreamy video clip and some of the coolest threads you’ll see this side of Camden.

Jayler is the full package: musically on point and fabulously fashionable, their underground status is a mystery.

Riverboat Queen’s royally entertaining. More of the same, please.

What’s next for Jayler

Beyond Glasto, summer festival dates include Steelhouse, Cambridge Rock and Stonedead.

Jayler is continuing to work on the band’s debut album.
