The Sheepdogs backstory

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the quirky Canadian rock and rollers.

And the sons of Saskatoon continue to fuse old school 70s blue rock vibes with enticing Southern flavours.

Taking their lead from artists including Creedance Clearwater Revival, The Allman Brothers and… Stevie Wonder, the versatile five-piece are a band on fire.

The 2022 release of Outta Sight cemented The Sheepdogs as top dogs in their genre.

And Ewan Currie’s crew continue to build a burgeoning fan base across the UK and Europe.

Double EP drop Paradise Alone and Hell Together has kept the pot boiling in 2024.

And the decision to fire off a festive AA side with the Currie brothers’ side project BROS looks like another canny move.

In The Sheepdogs vocalist Ewan Currie’s own words

“There’s a lot of Christmas music out there but not nearly enough Christmas Rock N Roll.

“So we’re making like Santa and delivering the December goods: a Xmas-party banger for your next holiday shindig.

“Christmas is a time for bringing family together, so it’s only fitting that this holiday season The Sheepdogs and BROS finally join forces for a Christmas to remember!

“One side rock n roll, one side Latin pop-tinged escapism.

“It’s a double shot of holiday cheer that’s sure to get you in the holiday spirit.”

The verdict on Santa Man/Hot Christmas

It’s never too early for a new Christmas tune and this two for the price of one festive treat is perfectly timed.

In fact we love this double header so much we only went and bought the green vinyl for the Rushonrock Wurlitzer… without checking the shipping cost first.

Not to worry.

Southern rock on one side and Latin pop on the other is the perfect antidote to another wet weekend steering clear of Storm Bert.

Santa Man’s a laid back Skynyrd-styled holiday anthem perfect for soundtracking the post-Christmas lunch leftovers buffet.

And Hot Christmas is like listening to Santana on a sleigh or Los Lobos stuck up a chimney.

The world needs more Christmas songs and more Christmas songs that rock.

Thanks to The Sheepdogs and BROS for proving there’s still much more to festive cheese than Wensleydale with cranberries.

What’s next for The Sheepdogs

The band’s on the road across Europe and the UK for the next fortnight.

Stopping off in Utrecht tonight, The Sheepdogs move on to Cologne and Paris this week before hitting British shores.

London’s Islington Assembly hosts the final show of the tour on December 5.
